After winning the 2008 World Championships at Blue Belt Super Heavy division, then settling for Silver at the 2009 World Championships at Purple Belt Super Heavy division, Johannes came to Long Beach for the 2010′s version of the event like a well oiled machine. Further chiseling an already impressive physique, Johannes fit his 6 feet and 2 inch frame into the 205 lb. Heavyweight Purple Belt division. Facing a stacked division, Johannes won 6 fights en route to a Heavyweight Gold at Purple Belt. Adding to his list of firsts, it was the first Purple Belt World Jiu Jitsu Championship for a German born competitor. He was the first German to win a World Jiu Jitsu Championship ever, when he won at Blue Belt in 2008.
Owner and operator of Sanefighting MMA and BJJ, Johannes became an affiliate of Ribeiro Jiu Jitsu in late 2006. “We wanted to have the best teacher in the world, which should also be the best fighter, so we dropped Saulo (Ribeiro) an email to see if he would be interested in teaching us. His schedule did not permit him to visit immediately, so he sent Xande (Ribeiro). That was September of 2006.” When asked of Xande’s visit he recalls, “there was a group of 25 to 30 of us training with NoGi…we called it BJJ. He came with his Kimono, and said “No, you guys are doing Luta Livre here!” After hearing that we all went out and bought Gis. Since then we have been hooked on Kimono Jiu Jitsu, haha”.
Currently, Johannes has 60 students at Sanefighting, and is looking for a bigger facility in the heart of Munich, Germany. His goal is to promote Ribeiro Jiu Jitsu throughout Europe. And of course, with a new Brown Belt to hold up his Kimono, to win the Brown Belt division World Jiu Jitsu Championship, and achieve two more firsts for Germany… Brown Belt Gold and recieving a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt!
